About

My research is primarily in moral and political philosophy. I wrote my PhD thesis on the permissibility of killing innocent people in self-defence.  During my time as a Leverhulme fellow I am writing a book about the relationship between war and self-defence.  I'm particularly interested in the implications of the rules of self-defence for the permissibility of killing non-combatants.  At the moment, I'm looking at how we prosecute war crimes, and how this relates to our understanding of combatant responsibility.
